Tejon Pass, Frazier Mtn~ 4/28/08
Along the old road over Tejon Pass, not visible from Hwy5…. This is another beautiful view in danger of being lost forever, just like the hillsides of Gorman on the other side of the highway….. (My captions don’t go on and on like this too often, but here it comes) …….It is against the law to pick one California Poppy, but developers may be permitted to erase them completely…… Just one more reason this is not a place to build more subdivisions- 35miles (at least) from the nearest stoplight, walmart or vons (they’d probably name one of the streets "Poppy" Way or Lane), this spot regularly charred by wildfires also happens to be right on top of the San Andreas Fault… where the local wells have already seen water levels dropping at an alarming rate, even through wetter seasons- not good news for the few people living here now…. in a place where bears, mountain lions and wild boars are sighted fairly often, and have totalled a number of vehicles- people are injured, the animals themselves killed…… (The craziest thing happened to one woman driving on this road at night just a couple of years ago, about 1/2 mile down the road where it narrows running right between busy Hwy5 and the Flying J truck stop– She was passing by a bear along the side of the road when it actually got up on its hind legs and attacked her car- tearing off her side mirror and leaving claw marks down the side. We hear stories of bears breaking into houses- one was even caught lounging on the bed, very comfortably enjoying whatever it was he just got from the kitchen- but attacking a moving car? That is one psycho bear.)
